Addis Ababa, 30 April 2012: The Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Jean Ping, strongly condemns the terrorist attacks perpetrated in Nairobi, Kenya, and in Kano, Nigeria, on 29 April 2012, which resulted in the death of several worshippers, while injuring many others. 

The Chairperson of the Commission expresses AU’s condolences to the Governments and peoples of Kenya and Nigeria, as well as to the families of the deceased. He wishes the injured early recovery.

 

The Chairperson of the Commission assures the Governments and authorities of both Kenya and Nigeria of the full support of the AU in their efforts to fight terrorism, intolerance and extremism. He reiterates the commitment of the AU to continue working with Member States and all other stakeholders, towards the effective implementation of AU’s and international instruments relating to the prevention and combating of terrorism.
