The Secretariat of the African Peace Support Trainers Association (APSTA) published the Revised Harmonised Standards for Civilian, Police and Military Pre-Deployment Training, in September 2014.
The Revised Harmonised Standards are the outcome of the APSTA Civilian Peacekeepers Foundation Training Harmonisation Workshop (Nairobi, Kenya, December 2013), and the Police Pre-Deployment Training Harmonisation Workshop (Accra, Ghana, May 2014).
The first workshop involved civilian training and civilian subject matter experts, while the second workshop involved Police training experts, all drawn from the AU Commission, Regional Economic Communities/Mechanisms (RECs/RMs), the African Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), and Training and other Centers of Excellence that are members of APSTA, as well as the Save the Children (West Africa) also participated in the Police workshop.
The Revised Harmonised Standards are part of efforts towards the harmonisation and standardisation of training within the continent, for the ASF and other African-led Peace Support Operations (PSOs), as well as for UN peacekeeping.
