Addis Ababa, 09 March 2012: On 8 March 2012, participants at the Annual General Meeting of the Training for Peace Programme, funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, paid a visit to the Peace and Security Department of the Commission of the African Union (AU).

The purpose of the visit was to learn more about the Department, and the programmes the Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD) is undertaking so as to better understand how it plans and manages all peace support operations authorised by the AU.

The visitors were given a detailed presentation of the African Standby Force (ASF), including the civilian and police dimensions.

The group was engaged in discussions on the issues related to peace and security challenges in the continent.

Afterwards, the group concluded their visit at the Situation Room where they were briefed on the AU Continental Early Warning System (CEWS) that provides timely advice on potential conflicts and threats to peace and security in Africa to the AU decision-makers.
